The overall mechanical system design is becoming more definitive. Along with motor selection, we are also getting closer to finalizing the wheel size and some of the suspension geometry. With motor selection complete, we have been able to look further at the drive system and the motor enclosures. With Maxon EC-4pole 30mm motors and GP 32 HP gearheads, we can package the entire drive system inside a 2″ diameter aluminum tube about 5″ long. Additionally, we need to transition from the gearhead’s 10mm keyed shaft to a large flange with a 3″ bolt circle. We will make this transition with a 3/4″ stub shaft and additional bearing element, as well as a lip seal for protection from dust and water ingress.
